How Do Artists Explore Their Star Persona - Chris Brown

Chris Browns star persona hasn't changed throughout the years. In his music video for 'Turn up the music' he has wide shot angles and close up angles. Looking through Chris Browns music videos you can see that they're a combination of performances and narrative, for example 'Fine China.' In both 'Turn up the music' and 'Questions' you can see a key theme of futurism, this is shown through the uses of lights and camera angles. As you can see his song covers are also very similar, he is the main image in both. The camera shots in the covers are mid shots of Chris Brown as he is the main image. He is also using indirect mode of address, which has connotations of being sophisticated. In his 'Turn up the music' cover, he is shown wearing a suit, this connotes that he is successful. His music videos don't have meanings behind them as they're mainly performance based. Also, throughout the years you can see that he uses additional people to make the video more energetic. In the video 'Questions' he uses additional backup dancers who are mainly women, who are being sexualised.

The camera shots in both music videos are very similar, they both have wide angle shots to show the audience his surroundings, they also have close up angles which show the audience the star vehicle. He also uses high shot angles to show all the people dancing.

Meghan Trainers music video for dear future husband has lots of different representations for women. One of these includes needing attention all the time. This is shown when she says 'tell me i'm beautiful' and when she says 'you need to know how to treat me like lady, even when i'm acting crazy' this connotes, that she needs someone who's always going to be there for her. This reinforces stereotypes in the media, as women are seen to want someone who is always going to be there for them. Feminists would disagree with this as they would say women do not need a man to tell them they're beautiful. This representation could also be seen as wanting to be treated right, this is known as being polysemic. Women are also represented as being love 'crazy.'
