Applying media theories

Semiotics: This theory is essential to enable you to analyse how meanings are constructed through signs. Semiotics deals with the way in which media products are encoded and how audiences decode the message contained within the product. Composed of two elements: The signifier, the actual form of the signified, for example an image or sound. The signification, the meaning we attach to the sign. Linked with mise en scene, for example the colour red and the connotations is set of the meaning associated with the sign. Representation: That representations are constructed through a language that is made up of signs and codes that are understood by the audience. Identity: Relevant to both the forms of advertising and marketing and music videos. That the media provides us the tools or resources that we use to construct our identities. They then use 'pick n mix' which aspects of these products they want to use in the construction of their own identities. Reception: The domi

Unisex Perfume/Aftershave campaign and mood board

Image
The product we chose to advertise is a perfume/aftershave that's for both genders. The perfume boosts confidence and self esteem, which is a huge struggle for teenagers today. The perfume/aftershave its self is going to be in the same bottle. The reason we chose to do a unisex perfume/aftershave is because 1 in 3 teenagers suffer from a low self esteem and don't have enough confidence in themselves. This then could lead to more serious matter such as depression, anxiety. We want our product to target any class, starting from the age of 13. As we think this is when young teenagers start to become more aware of their confidence and the way they look, which could affect their self esteem and confidence. Our product will begin to help them overcome their insecurities. As our target audience is for teenagers we're going to make our product affordable for everyone. To target our audience we will need a unique selling point which is going to be that the product is unisex, so

How Do Artists Explore Their Star Persona - Chris Brown

Image
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH76VvWkNwA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQWG8BVeryU Chris Browns star persona hasn't changed throughout the years. In his music video for 'Turn up the music' he has wide shot angles and close up angles. Looking through Chris Browns music videos you can see that they're a combination of performances and narrative, for example 'Fine China.' In both 'Turn up the music' and 'Questions' you can see a key theme of futurism, this is shown through the uses of lights and camera angles. As you can see his song covers are also very similar, he is the main image in both. The camera shots in the covers are mid shots of Chris Brown as he is the main image. He is also using indirect mode of address, which has connotations of being sophisticated. In his 'Turn up the music' cover, he is shown wearing a suit, this connotes that he is successful. His music videos don't have meanings behind them as they're mai

Stereotypes Of Young People-Skins

Overview of stereotypes of young people: Criminal, naive, violent, sex, superficial, obsessed with social media, status and popularity, gratification. One example that I looked at was Skins. Skins is a British teenage comedy, it revolves around a group of teenagers in sixth form. One of the stereotypes shown about teenagers is lying. This is shown when James (Cook) lies about being hit by the car, at the start of season 3 episode 1. This connotes that teenagers like to start unnecessary drama. Another representation shown in skins is being obsessed with sex, this is shown with many different characters such as, Cook, Effy and Pandora. One example of this is when Pandora is explain to Effy about how much she wants to loose her virginity, this is shown in season 3 episode 1. Teenagers are also represented as loving drink and drugs, this is shown in season 3 episode 2, when Cook thinks his seventeenth birthday is going to be full of alcohol. This then results in Pandora throwing up

Cross Platform Media

In this essay I will be looking at what cross platform media is and the benefits of it. Cross platform media, is telling/selling a product on multiple different platforms. Such as TV adverts, still image campaigns and billboards. The benefits of cross platform media is that it shows more people the product you're advertising, which will make the product popular. Cross platform media benefits the company as it promotes the product on different medias such as TV, social media. This is good because each different media has different target audiences so a wider range of people will see the advert. Social media is normally a platform for teenagers and young adults, where as if it's on a billboard the target audience is going to be for the older generation. Cross platform media is becoming more and more popular as time goes on because it's an easier way of promoting your product.
